Welcome to July! Happy new financial year, if you celebrate.
I’ve been making some progress and changes on the back end to get back into posting my work and taking those baby steps forward again.
The Sleepover Suite series playing with urban legends will be continuing as a Patreon exclusive, with Bloody Mary coming in October and then more entries every four months (February, June, and October again). If you’re unfamiliar, the Sleepover Suite is a series of unconnected short stories that works on the premise of a familiar urban legend or scary story to tell a new tale. They’re fun reads playing with my favourite tropes and cliches from the horror canon.
In other Patreon news monthly posting will begin again in January! There’ll be a slight format change for my sanity, stamina and consistency’s sake, but keep your eyes peeled for Everyday Anxieties: a series of short reads (under 1000 words) that asks the age old question, what is really the worst that could happen?
The Everyday Anxieties will be posted on Patreon first, but after a week or so they’ll be free to read via my new Substack. This will hopefully be a more direct way for me to send out the shorts without worrying about reach, hosting websites or fees. The Substack list will contain only short fiction, no solicitations for your money or notifications about Patreon only stuff, so if you’re just here to read the stuff that’s most easily available you can subscribe in advance at substack.com/mogseltof or keep an eye out here for the announcement of it going up.
They’ll still get posted over here with my other free shorts, so if you prefer the WordPress subscriptions nothing needs to change on your end 🙂
In terms of Honey Tree’s future I was very pleased with how Muay Thai finished up in its prequelish state, and the actual official first book in the series, Fight Dirty, will be coming next year. There’ll be more details when we’re closer to reading ready, but at the moment we’re looking at 7 books total with a good span of different characters and complicated relationships.
On the off chance you’re here in hope to find out more about my fanfiction, I’ve got a pile of one shots in the backlog I’m working through, I’m nearly done with last year’s NaNo project (a 70k-ish Transformers Prime AU called A Changed Wind Blows), and I’ve just wrapped up the first arc of Flyboy Asylum. Ideally the next time you hear from me it’ll be because I’ve updated the website! I’m tossing up on ‘real’ urls and domains, but dragging my feet because the ‘designing and maintaining your website’ part of having a website is a real bummer. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things!
