Happy 2024!

…Belatedly, by this stage.

And welcome back to hopefully regular posting!

This week marks the launch of the Everyday Anxieties short horror series, which will be posting here on this website once a month (excluding February, June, and October), and a week earlier on my Patreon. Everyday Anxieties is a series of short, standalone, horror fiction that answers the question of what really is the worst that could happen? Reading early on Patreon also gives you access to the Sleepover Suite stories as well— twisted bedtime stories both scary and sweet.

If you aren’t interested you can just subscribe to email updates here and still read all the Anxieties along with all of my other publicly posted stuff. (Not these author updates unless it’s something relevant, just stories.)

Okay, obligatory pitch for the new shorts out of the way, let’s talk everything else.

I’m trying to come back with a slower and focused approach to posting this year while I work on finishing some of my longer projects, but I’m also hoping to be more talkative in this style of post. One of the longer projects I’m working on finishing is the next book of Honey Tree (currently titled Fighting Dirty) and there will hopefully be more news on its progress in the back half of the year.

My big goal for the front half of the year is to finish my new novel! Or at least the first draft, it’s definitely got a ways to go before it’s capital F finished. I went back to my fantasy roots last year and wrote a more intimate narrative about people fucking each other up instead of the grand scale epics I used to struggle with. My working title is “The Immortal Rose” but I’m certainly not married to it, so you’ll probably hear my frustrations continuing over the next few months.

In more personal news I absolutely fell prey to the New Year’s stationary rush and so far it’s working to keep me slightly more organised. I’ve only missed two of my three deadlines instead of all three, so I’m hopeful for the next five minutes at any rate. (My weekly planner is at least succeeding in its primary secondary goal of occupying a large chunk of my desk to prevent me from stacking it with books and loose paper and random crap, so it can definitely stay.)

I hope we’re all having a great start to the New Year (or an organised one at least), and I’m looking forward to where it takes us! See you again in March for the next Anxiety (‘A Pound of Flesh’).
